Alice – Emma Torres Alaniz passed away at home on Thursday, February 3, 2022. She was 86.
Emma was born on September 5, 1935 in Taft, Texas to Edmundo ‘Lico’ and Olivia (Sanchez) Torres. She was a resident of Alice, Texas for 60 years and formerly lived in Del Rio and Taft, Texas. Emma was a housewife and previously worked as a teacher’s aide and also worked for High Brim Hats. After marrying, mom and dad moved to Del Rio where she recalled some of her fondest memories as they made lifelong friends with Donato and Teresita Rodriguez, Victor and Nina Paniagua and Dr. and Mrs. Fermin Calderon. They formed a close bond and spent much time with each other sharing their hopes and dreams and their ideas about raising their young families. They all enjoyed playing cards, bunco and dancing at the annual Black and White Ball. Mom liked the spring time; she would put on her large hat to go outside where she enjoyed gardening and filling empty pots with fresh new plants or flowers. She especially liked watching the hummingbirds and marveled at the wonderful colors of green and red feathers as they came to feed from the hummingbird feeders in the backyard.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by everyone who knew her. We extend our thanks to all of Emma’s caregivers, hospice, neighbors, the Alice Fire Department and especially Rosie Vela, a dear friend, who has a wonderful servant’s heart for her love, devotion and care she provided to our mom.
