Join us for our annual Holiday NY City Hike, this year posted WAY in advance more than ever so I’ll have NO complaints about not knowing when it was!
This year we will be doing something a bit different…last year was really great actually getting some real hiking in, and we want to keep with that this year.
So, this time we will END in Manhattan, but begin in Elizabeth NJ, that way we can WALK THE NEW GOETHELS BRIDGE which should have it’s walkway open by then! It was already supposed to be open now.
We’ll begin our hike in Elizabeth NJ at the old Central Railroad of New Jersey station. I will be taking the 7:50 train from Millburn and switch in Secaucus to get there by 9:30ish.
By doing this, we will incorporate a cool section of the Elizabeth River Greenway on the way to the bridge ramp.
We’ll get to Staten Island and cover a bit of the trail there, Silver Lake Park, a cemetery, and much more. Staten Island is considered one of the five boros, so it’s still NY City, and actually a pretty cool area.
Once at the north side, we will take the free Staten Island Ferry across to Manhattan where we’ll see some of the popular sites from Battery Park heading north including waterfront and World Trade Center memorial.
This should be a really great and interesting route, and much different than others we’ve done. Still about 16 miles.
