Higinio “Gene” Guerra, age 85, passed away December 20, 2021 in San Diego, Texas. He was born July 11, 1936 in Realitos, Texas to Isaac and Elena Guerra. He served and retired from the United States Navy after serving 20 years. He also worked and retired from Entex Gas, now known as Centerpoint. After his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated Guerra Country Inn Store. He later established, owned and operated H.G. Backhoe Service. Gene had a love for the outdoors. He passed away after a hunting trip, doing what he loved to do most outdoors. He also enjoyed barbecuing, horses, and western things. He was an avid Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan. Gene had a friendly, caring character and often showed his love through food, whether it was cooking it, conversing about it, or eating it. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Elena Guerra; his mother and father-in-law Leonor R. and Victor C. Cantu; his former wife Zulema G. Guerra; his sister-in-law Elvira R. Cantu; and his brothers Macedonio Guerra and Jesse Rosas.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria C. Guerra of Alice; children, Elena Leonor Guerra Salinas (Juan) of Odem, Patrick “P.J.” Guerra of Alice, Linda Guerra Garcia (Tony L.) of San Antonio, Leticia “Leti” Guerra Reyes (Gilbert) of Cedar Park; nine grandchildren, Andrew Garcia, Rene Garcia, Zulema Reyes, Isaac Reyes, Jordan Salinas, Jacquelyn Salinas, Julianna Salinas, Lauren Grace Guerra, and Lauriza Faith Guerra; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home with a rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Coastal Bend Veteran’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Higinio Garcia, Mando Sandoval, Juan Salinas, Gilbert Reyes, Tony L. Garcia, Alex Guerra, Mace Guerra, and Andrew Guerra.
