Alice – Roel Vela Sr., age 65, passed away January 12, 2022 in Alice, Texas. He was born June 21, 1956 in Edinburg, Texas to Margarito Vela and Dora Lydia Garcia Vela. Roel previously worked for H&S Shanks in Alice for numerous years. Roel was a handy man and a jack of all trades. Roel had a strong work ethic who instilled his values in his children and was a good provider. He had a love for music, playing the guitar and keyboard. He was always ready to turn on the grill and barbecue his famous tasting chicken. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Roel was preceded in death by his father, Margarito Vela; mother, Dora Lydia Vela Treviño; step-father, Ramiro Treviño; sister-in-law, Victoria Ann Vela, uncle, Ernesto Garcia; and aunt, Juanita Garcia.
Roel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosalinda Vela of Alice; three sons, Roel Vela Jr. (Graciela R.) of Alice, Ernesto Vela of Kilgore, and Eric Vela (Misty A.) of Annaville; siblings, Raul Vela of McAllen, Rene Vela (Gracie) Mission, Rudy Treviño (Alma) of San Antonio, Nora Treviño Martinez of Mission, Norma Saldaña (George) of Mission, Anna Cantu (Edmundo) of Uvalde, and Dorina Treviño of Mission; grandchildren, Ayden Vela (Mark A. Buentello), Joaquin Diego Vela, Jayda Martinez, Javi Martinez, and Ernesto Justus Vela; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. Services to conclude in the chapel.
