Alice, Texas – Azusena “Susie” G. Torres, age 98 passed away peacefully in her home on January 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 4, 1923, in Palito Blanco, Texas to Ambriosio and Guadalupe Guerra.
Susie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. There is nothing she treasured more than her family. She will be remembered by her family for her feisty, outgoing and larger than life attitude. She raised her family in Rancho Alegre in the home her and her husband built together. To many she was known as the “Mom” of Range Street her neighbors near and far loved her, and she loved them. She had a special love for music, including singing along, throwing gritos, and occasionally taking a shot of her favorite- tequila rose. She also loved playing chalupa, keeping up with her garden, doing projects around the house and keeping all of her kids and grandkids on their toes. Susie made an impact on each person she crossed paths with. Whether it was to offer a warm hug or a special prayer. She made everyone feel special and loved.
Susie was a devoted catholic. She attended mass every Sunday and was always involved in church events at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Her nightly routine consisted of praying the rosary and praying for everyone she loved. She would not fall asleep until she mentioned each and every one of her loved ones.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her providers Megan, Linda, Kat and Angie. It took a village to care for her and each and every one of you did it graciously and without complaint. A special thank you to Betty Villarreal and Bart from Mi Casa Hospice for being so thoughtful and compassionate during her lengthy illness. Her children would also like to give an extra special thank you to all of Wela’s grandchildren and great grandchildren who helped in her care whether it was financially or hands on care. We truly could not have given Wela the care she deserved or opportunity to pass away peacefully in her home without your help.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Raul Torres; her two sons, Jose Raul Torres Jr and Rene Torres Sr; one son in law, Rene Sanchez; her siblings, Emilio and Manuel Guerra; sisters, Aurora Trejo and Wanda Risner.
She is survived by her sons, Reynaldo Torres and Raul (Mary) Torres; daughters, Rosie (Noel) Ibarra, Josie (Rene) Sanchez, Dalia Torres; and daughter in law, Lydia Torres; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved furry companion Lucky.
