Alice – On January 27, 2022, Odilia (Garza) Barrera, passed away peacefully at age 73. Odie was born to Benito and Cecilia Garza on September 17, 1948. Odie was best known as Wife to the love of her life, Tito; Mom to her precious children, Cynthia (Rey) Guerra, Lynda (Jason) Bolitho, and Victor Barrera; and Nana to her beloved grandchildren, Cristopher Moya, Christine Bolitho Palazzo, and Angelita De La Garza.
When Odie’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of that time, Odie was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and many of her children’s friends considered her a surrogate mother. She would do anything for her family and people she cared about. She was empathetic and always gave sound advice while being honest and telling it like it is. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and making jokes. She was a devoted Christian who used prayer to help get her through life. We were all blessed to have her in our lives and are much better people because of her impact. She will be greatly missed and always loved as we cherish all of the precious memories.
She is now resting in peace in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior and has been reunited with her Apa and her Ama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benito and Cecilia Garza.
Odilia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tito Barrera of Alice; three children, Cynthia Ann Guerra (Rey) of Alice, Lynda Yvette Bolitho (Jason) of Argyle, and Victor Benny Barrera of Cibolo; three grandchildren, Cristopher Moya, Christine Palazzo (Patrick), and Angelita DeLa Garza; one great-grandchild on the way; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. till 2 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a holy rosary to be recited at 2 p.m. A funeral mass will follow at 3:30 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church that same day. Burial to be at Roberson Collins Cemetery.
