Jesus Ortiz Martinez, Sr.
Jesus Ortiz Martinez, Sr, better known as “Chuy”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2022. He was born in Alice, Texas on December 26, 1933 to his parents, Pedro and Guadalupe Martinez. He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Chuy was a hardworking family man and taught his children the value of hard work, respect, and honesty. He was a strong man of faith and a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a carpenter who provided the best in service. He enjoyed good old classic movies, Tejano music, corridos, and dancing every weekend. His favorite days to celebrate were Christmas, his birthday, and Dallas Cowboys game days.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Delmira Martinez; his parents, Pedro and Guadalupe Martinez; brothers, Joe Martinez and Mayo Martinez; and sisters, Esperanza Burton, Flora Pacheco, and Guadalupe Padilla.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Jesus (Monica) Martinez Jr, Ruben Martinez, Jimmy (Ashley) Gonzalez, and Jaime (Stephanie) Gonzalez; daughters, Rosie (Arturo) Gonzalez, Maria Lydia Saenz, Esmeralda (Gilbert) Ramos, Irma (Arnold) Muniz, and Ryan (Frankie Villagran) Rodriguez; sisters, Olivia Martinez and Paula Glass; brother, Robert (Nora) Martinez; grandchildren who lived with him, Monique, Miley, and Michael Martinez;16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and extended family.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 5, 2022 . Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Roberson Collins Cemetery.
