Gary Wayne Gold
September 7, 1960 – March 28, 2022
At midnight the Lord’s Chariot of Angels descends down to carry the spirit of the believers as they pass on to eternal life. For our beloved Gary this came on March 28, 2022. Born September 7th,1960 in San Antonio, Gary would attend elementary and middle school at St. Mary Magdalen Private School and graduate from Lee High School. He would go on to attend UTSA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business with a concentration in accounting. In September 1989, Gary became a Certified Public Accountant.
Gary spent most of his career in the energy industry where he worked for Valero Energy Corporation, El Paso Energy Corporation and City Public Service Energy. Gary achieved a significant career milestone when he was selected for the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at CPS Energy. He would retire from CPS in June of 2021, concluding a very successful corporate career. Throughout his tenure, Gary was a highly respected and beloved leader, mentor, colleague, and friend.
An extremely avid outdoorsman, Gary’s hobbies centered around spending time outside and amidst nature. Gary was an instrumental figure in launching the family business, Elm Pass Woods Wedding Venue, where he lovingly spent countless hours overseeing everything from accounting to landscaping. Gary loved bass fishing, boating, kayaking, golfing and spending time in deep South Texas. Gary also enjoyed hunting, ranching, traveling and attending concerts (Preferably The Eagles). Most notably, Gary was extremely devoted to his family and had fully and joyfully embraced his new role of Grandpa to his Little Theo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine & David Gold, his mother-in-law, Olga and father-in-law, Amador Caballero, Jr. and Lobo, our loyal family dog. Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Susie Marie Gold, his only child, daughter Alexandria Jaye Gold-Haws (Center Point, TX), his son in law, Michael Haws, his adoring grandson, Theodore Gold Haws, and his sister, Denise Gold and Fidencio Sandoval (San Antonio, TX). Gary is also survived by his three grand-dogs, Riley, Dexter and Sam, whom he always had a big soft spot for.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at both Methodist Main Hospital and Stone Oak, as well as the START Center for all the care they provided.
True to form, Gary packed a tremendous amount of life in his 61 years and taught us all to live life to the fullest. Though his unexpected medical diagnosis upended our family, Gary remained unabashedly himself throughout the entire ordeal. Even in sickness, Gary was a beacon of strength and served as our unmovable rock, determined to look after his family even in the face of death. Gary was a hero to all who knew him and he will remain so for many generations to come.
As Gary would say “memories are our greatest treasure”.
