ALICE – Lydia L. Martinez – 64 years of age passed away on March 28, 2022, with her family gathered at her bedside after a long courageous battle to brain cancer. She was born on December 31, 1957, in Alice, Texas to Leonides C. Lopez Jr. and Petra “Patsy” Ramirez Lopez. She worked for the Alice ISD food service department for many years. She will always be remembered as a humble and loving person. She will be missed by her family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Michael Martinez; her father, Leonides Lopez Jr.; one sister, Annabelle Lopez and her in laws, Anna Maria Martinez Crump and Jose Conrado Martinez and one brother, Ruben R. Lopez and one nephew, Robert Lee Lopez.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Michael Martinez II of Alice, Texas; her mother, Patsy R. Lopez of Alice, Texas; two brothers, Danny (Elodia) Lopez of Mesquite, Texas and Leonides Lopez III of Alice, Texas and six sisters, Nelda Lopez, Diana (Joe) Guerra, Sylvia (Hector) Anguiano, Mary Lou Garcia, Laura (Manuel) Buentello and Nora (Rey) Salinas all of Alice, Texas one very special niece, Ashley Lopez of Alice, Texas and a nephew she raised as her own, Ruben Lopez Jr. of Kingsville, Texas.
The family is eternally grateful for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Smith, Dr. Mahmood, Dr. Au, Del Cielo Hospice and a special thanks to everyone who helped with her medical expense benefit.
A Holy Rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. that same evening on Friday April 1, 2022, at Rosas Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday April 2, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial followed at the New Collins Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Govea, Ruben Lopez Jr., Hector Anguiano Jr., Daniel Lopez Jr., Manuel Buentello and Rey Salinas.
