Lamar Dimas Hernandez was called home on Friday, June 2nd at the age of 87. Lamar was born on September 11, 1935 to Manuel and Manuela Dimas in Benavides, Texas. She enjoyed gambling, bingo, poker, and gatherings with friends and family, she was also a devoted Cowboys’ fan. Lamar was happily married to Ramiro Hernandez for 34 years and had seven beautiful children. Everyone knew her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Manuela S. Dimas; her loving husband, Ramiro Hernandez; her son, Daniel O. Hernandez; her infant daughter, Noelia Hernandez; her sisters, Barbara Saenz, Zulema Saenz, Grace Vela, and her brothers, Joe, Adolio, and Arnulfo Dimas.
Lamar is survived by her two sons, Adriel (Dalia) Hernandez of Benavides, Texas; Ramiro “Mac” (Cynthia) Hernandez of San Diego, Texas; her three daughters, Leticia (Armando) Mercado of Mission, Texas; Selma (Avelino) Jasso of Zapata, Texas; Leila Hernandez (Mario) of Benavides, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sandra Hernandez; sister, Belen (Benito) Saavedra of McAllen, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to NSCL Home Health of Benavides, Texas, her nurses, Mary, Almira, Dina, Robbie, and Alena, and Nurses on Wheels. An extra special thanks to her grandson, Brian Hernandez, for always taking care of her and staying by her side till the end.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June7, 2023 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
