Esperanza S. Ibanez was called home to Our Heavenly Father on Monday, August 21, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born June 27, 1929, in Alice, Texas, she is predeceased by her parents, Ismael and Cruz Hobbs Saenz of Alice, Texas; her late husband of 64 years, Horacio S. Ibanez of San Diego, Texas; and her four younger siblings, Aurora Smithwick, Blanca Clark, Ismael Saenz Jr. and Lamar Rivera. She is survived by her three daughters, Norma Hinojosa of Corpus Christi, Texas, Nora (Joseph) Hancock of Austin, Texas and Nelda Juarez of New Braunfels, Texas. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Margaret (Justin) Switt , Raymond “Ray” (Alejandra) Hinojosa III, Joseph (Vanessa) Hancock Jr. and Alexandria “Ali” Juarez. Her great grandchildren are Hayden Johnson, Warren Sibley, Christina Hinojosa, Raymond Hinojosa IV, Nathalia Hinojosa, Sebastian Hinojosa, Isabela Hancock, and Emma Hancock.
A loving wife and mother, Esperanza, supported her husband’s business, the Three-Way Service Station, and their three daughters in all their academic/extracurricular school activities, their professional careers and their family activities.
Esperanza had various hobbies including reading, crocheting and gardening. She was also active in civic and religious organizations. She was a founding member of the San Diego VFW Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the St. Francis de Paula Catholic Daughters organization and a Eucharistic Minister of the St. Francis de Paula Church.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the medical staff at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline and New Century Hospice-Corpus Christi. A very special thank you to Dr. Tarum Madappa for his loving care.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.
