Linda Jo Garcia, 70 years of age, was welcomed to heaven on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. She was born on November 22, 1952, in San Diego, Texas to her parents, Felipe and Regina Rodriguez. She went to San Diego High School, graduated in 1971 and then went on to receive a degree in Education from
Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas. Linda worked in the Education field for over 40 years exhibiting love, energy and passion for teaching and learning. Thousands of students across Texas, including San Diego ISD and Glossbrenner Correctional Institute, benefited from that passion and are better for it. Linda was a resident of San Diego, Texas for 70 years. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt and will be sadly missed.
After retirement, Linda spent much of her time caring for her husband, enjoying her grand kids, and finding ways to celebrate and honor our country’s armed forces. She became incredibly active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Auxiliary Post #8931 in San Diego, Tx and the Auxiliary Post # 8921 in Alice, Tx. She held many positions with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary including Past President of District 6. Linda was also life member of the VFW National Home.
Linda Jo enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, watching her novellas and bingo. You could find her participating in various community activities and never missing her grandchildren’s school events, sporting events and dance recitals. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Luis Garcia; her parents, Felipe & Regina Rodriguez; two brothers, Philip “Felipe” Rodriguez Jr., and J. M. Rodriguez; and sister, Mary Rodriguez.
Linda Jo is survived by her children, Michael Anthony Collins, Mark Donald (Iris) Collins; Kimberly (Xavier) Galvan, Katrina (Johnny) Rodriguez; her brother, Catarino (Cynthia) Rodriguez; four sisters, Gloria (Sergio) Hinojosa, Regina († Damas) Rodriguez, Cynthia († Hector Mario) Saenz, and Consuelo († Hector) Campos; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery (9974 IH 37 Access Road) Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
