Sylba Lee Adams Storm Born: September 29, 1923 in Nokomis, Illinois Death: November 6, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona Sylba Lee Adams Storm passed away from this life on Monday, November 6, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona. The only child born to Lois Opal Whitten and Dr. Sylba Adams on September 29, 1923 in Nokomis, Illinois. Sylba Lee, as special as her name, was named after her father and grandfather Levi Whitten. Sylba Lee’s childhood, which read like a story book, was spent on a number of Indian reservations from South Dakota, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Washington State. She rode bareback with the Sioux and helped her father make house calls on horseback. Her time with the Oglala and Lakota Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota had a life-long impact. In November 1942, while a Pre-Med sophomore at the University of Washington Seattle, she met and after a whirlwind courtship, married Wash Storm Jr., an Army Air Corp Intelligence Officer, in Tacoma Washington in 1943. They started their married life stationed at March Field, Riverside California, where their first child, Stephen was born. Sylba Lee’s husband served in the Pacific Theater. She remained patriotic and a proud WW2 bride her entire life. After Wash finished his Military service, they put down their roots – metaphorically and physically, in Premont, Texas, their home for nearly 50 years growing their family and their business, Storm Nursery. In the early 1990’s, Sylba Lee and Wash moved to Kerrville, where she cared for her husband until his passing in 1997 and she lived until 2019. Beginning in 2019, Sylba Lee lived with her three daughters, Catherine in Dallas, TX. Priscilla in Tucson, AZ. and Shari in Marana and Prescott, AZ. In September of this year, Sylba Lee celebrated her 100th Birthday with a party in Kyle, TX. It was attended by many family and friends. Sylba Lee epitomized “bloom where you are planted” – always working to make wherever she was the best she could. From serving on the school board in Premont, to teaching Sunday school, the Premont Wildflower Club, a charter member of the Hill Country Archaeological Association, and a multitude of book clubs. She always gave back to those less fortunate, donating clothes to the reservation, financially supporting children overseas and often after leaving a nice tip would say, “charity begins at home,” reminding us to give as generously as we have been blessed. An avid reader, often reading 3 or more books at a time, she was a lifelong learner. She loved to travel the world even into her 70’s sharing that love with many of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick, easy and brilliant smile, sage advice, and loving spirit. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Wash Storm Jr, her parents Lois & Sylba Adams, her son Stephen Storm, grandson in law David Schoenemann and many lifelong friends. She is survived by: Her Children: Shari Storm Kelly (Dick), Phillip Wash Storm (Gay Lynn), Catherine Adams Storm, Paul Vickers Storm (Johanna), and Priscilla Ann Storm (Michael Reuwsaat) 19 Grandchildren: Jacklynn Storm Schoenemann, Merlin Storm (Renee), Jennifer Storm (David Nuckels), Reid Storm (Karyn), Sarah & Christopher Reuwsaat, Sylba Loren Storm-Perez Everett (BJ), Nicol Olivarez (Noe), Charles Storm (Abbey), Caroline Storm Westenhover (John), Madelynn Storm Bolton (Evan), Lillian Stormhawk (Aaron), Hannah, William & David Storm, Justin Beasley (LeAnn), Shelbey Storm, Cameron & Andrew Gordon 17 Great Grandchildren: Jaden Storm, Landon & Barret Nuckels, Caitlyn & Jackson Storm, Luna Everett, Ethan & Evan Witte, Charles & Weston Beasley, Levi, Gideon, Miriam & Moriah Storm, Isaac & Johanna Westenhover, and Willow Gordon.
