Elva Garza Cantu, 82 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2024 at her residence with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in Benavides, Texas. On April 24, 1941, to her parents, Samuel and Guadalupe Garza. Elva attended school in Benavides, Texas and was formally employed as a teacher’s aide for Freer ISD and as a cook for union restaurant in Freer. She was also an active member of Calvary Iglesia Bautista and Christian Center of Freer. Elva enjoyed spending her time crocheting dolls, making blankets, cooking, baking, making tamale, tortillas, empanadas and especially spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Elva is survived by her husband of 66 years of marriage, Julio G. Cantu of Benavides, Texas; four sons, Julio Cantu Jr. (Maria Cantu), Jose Omar Cantu, Eleazar Efin Cantu (Alberta Cantu), Juan Carlos; three daughters, Zulema (Jesus) Espinosa Jr, Diolanda Cantu, Cindy Marie (Mattthew) Vela.; two brothers, Juan Manuel (Sonia Garza) and Jose Arnold (Luisa Garza); one sister, Ludy (Valente) Salinas; 22 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2023, at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2023, at Faith Christian Center in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at Hall Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.
