AIDA SOLEDAD RAMIREZ HERRERA Aida Soledad Ramirez Herrera entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2023. She was born on December 20, 1933, in San Diego, Texas, to Pedro Ramirez and Thelma Garcia Ramirez. Aida was a 1950 graduate of William Adams High School in Alice, Texas, where she earned excellent grades and played on the volleyball team. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life, Alfredo Angel Herrera, on July 7, 1950, in Alice, Texas. Aida and Alfredo were married 63 years and were blessed with 12 beautiful children. Aida was the owner and director of The Children’s Corner Daycare in Kingsville, Texas, for 22 years. As a woman of deep faith and good works, she taught CCD Religion classes for Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage Preparation. Additionally, she led the Padre Pio Prayer group, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and took communion to elderly shut-ins from Our Lady of Good Counsel parish. Aida was an outstanding cook, talented seamstress, and a successful business owner. Mama Aida, as she was affectionately called, is best known for her selfless, loving, patient, and kind demeanor. Her parents, Pedro and Thelma Ramirez, preceded her in death, as well as her bothers, Arnoldo (Nono) and Ronaldo (Ronnie) Ramirez and her sister, Angelina (Gile) Ramirez Garcia, her children Aida Jean and Paul Javier, and grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole Canales, and Alfred Andrew Herrera. Mama Aida is survived by her brother, Oscar Ramirez and wife Josie, her sister, Thelma (Tippy) Ramirez Garza and husband Abelardo, as well as her ten children: Joel Herrera and spouse Yolanda, Alfred (Sonny) Herrera and spouse MaryLou, Judith Priest, Joseph Herrera, Patrick Herrera, Cecilia (Cissy) Bell, Amy Keal and spouse Chuck, Julie Herrera and spouse JC, Tammy Elias and spouse Daniel, Peter Herrera and spouse Anne. She also leaves a beautiful legacy of 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family will always be grateful for the love and faithful care provided by Tammy and Daniel Elias and would like to express a special thank you to Janie Salinas Garza for her helpful assistance with Aida. Aida’s laughter, kindness, joy, and love were true gifts that will forever be treasured. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 beginning at 9am with Rosary and visitation, followed by Mass at 10am. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8500 Cross Mountain Trail, San Antonio, TX, 78255 with burial to follow at New Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas, under the direction of Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel.
