Arnoldo L. Tanguma, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on November 3, 1945, in San Diego, Texas, Arnoldo was a man of remarkable character and a true testament to the values of honesty, respect, punctuality, and professionalism.
Arnoldo’s journey began as the beloved son of Juan and Dominga Tanguma, who preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Corando, Juan, and Marin Tanguma, and his sister, Tomasa Loera. He was a bright spark in the lives of his family, and his passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt. Arnoldo’s legacy continues through his devoted wife of 52 years, Dora Tanguma, who stood by his side through every chapter of life. Their love and partnership were truly the foundation of a beautiful family, which includes their son, Carlo (Evelyn) Tanguma, and daughters, Priscilla (Javier) Rodriguez and Clarissa Lee Tanguma (Raymond Bentancourt) who brought immense joy to his life.
Arnoldo’s spirit will live on through the cherished moments shared with his grandchildren, Krysta Gonzalez, Andrew A. Tanguma (Natalie Trevino), Javier Rodriguez (Reena Gonzalez), Aaron (Tiffany) Rodriguez, Carlo Tanguma II, Oscar E. Flores, Pamela L. Garcia, Bryanna L. (Oscar J.) Pena, Rolando Garcia Jr., and Emma Sofia Tanguma, as well as his numerous great-grandchildren. His brothers, Antonio and Ruben Tanguma, along with his sister-in-law, Gloria Tanguma, will remember him fondly, along with his is beloved furry pet, Bella, and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A graduate of San Diego Independent School District, Arnoldo was not only an exceptional student but also a standout athlete; excelling in track and football. His dedication to academia and athletics set the stage for his future accomplishments. Arnoldo’s professional life was marked by his service to his country and community. He proudly joined the United States Army in March of 1968, serving until March of 1974. During his time in the military, he was honored with several awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, retiring with the rank of SP4-E4. Following his military service, Arnoldo worked as a contractor for the Army Depot in the parts department before joining the Corpus Christi Army Depot in May 2001 where he dedicated his efforts until December 2013 in the D/MPP and Local Mfg. Division.
Arnoldo’s most rewarding achievement was building his house with his own hands with his wife Dora assisting him at their ranch. A true jack of all trades, he was skilled in welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, mowing, and mechanics. His courage and intelligence were matched by a gentle demeanor, making him a respected and admired figure in his community.
His life was a testament to his belief in the power of hard work and perseverance. Arnoldo instilled these values in his children and grandchildren, ensuring that his legacy of integrity and strength would endure for generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Arnoldo L. Tanguma, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. His memory will be treasured, and his presence missed, but the impact of his life will continue to inspire those who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing that he has left the world a better place for his having been in it.
Arnoldo’s family will receive condolences on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St.; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, for a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by military honors and folding of the flag at the Tanguma family ranch, 4794 CR 304, San Diego, TX. Cremation will follow.
Arnoldo’s final journey will be accompanied by those he loved and respected. Serving as pallbearers are Javier Rodriguez Jr., Aaron Michael Rodriguez, David Vera, Joey Vera, Rolando Garcia Jr., and Ruben Tanguma. Each of them will carry a piece of Arnoldo’s spirit with them as they fulfill this last service for their friend and family member.
