Alice – Berta P. Gonzalez, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022 with family by her side. She was born June 29, 1929 in Alice, Texas to Eduvijes and Francisca Garcia Perez. Berta was a devoted housewife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and an excellent cook. She was known to many for her delicious meals, famous iced tea, and her generous heart. Her kindness was felt by everyone who knew her. Her family was her pride and joy. She will be fondly remembered for her devotion to her family and her unconditional love for her sisters who were affectionately known as “The Golden Girls.” She will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduvijes and Francisca Garcia Perez; husband of 65 years, Eladio “El Colorado” Gonzalez; brother, Eduvijes Perez Jr. (Elma); sisters, Baudelia Gonzalez (Rodrigo), Francisca “Panchita” Canales (Ernesto), Paulita Najar (Alfredo), Belia Garcia (Homero), and Berta Perez.
Berta is survived by her children, Eladio “Lalo” Gonzalez Jr. (Penny), Jose Rolando “J.R.” Gonzalez (Vilma), and Belinda Ann Ortiz (Martin); grandchildren, Richard Gonzalez and Christina DeLong (Maverick); great-grandchildren, Jack DeLong and Emily DeLong; sister-in-law, Theresa Gonzalez; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank all the nursing staff and physical therapy staff at the Retama Manor Nursing Home in Alice, the Altus Hospice Staff, and her home provider, Lydia Villagran for their love, care, and respect given to our mother during her illness.
Due to the pandemic of Covid-19 we are living during this time, the family is reserving the services to remain private and for immediate family only. The family asks that you keep them in your prayers throughout the services and their time of grief, to stay safe and healthy.
