Mrs. Catalina Cantu went to be with the Lord on August 7th, 2022 at age 95. She was born on February 28, 1927 in Santa Cruz Ranch-Duval County, Texas to Eulalio Garza and Eloisa Gonzalez Garza. She is preceded in death by her parents, by her daughter Anna Gloria Cantu, her brothers Raul Garza and Jose Eulalio Garza Jr., by her sister Maria (Pola) Garza Saenz, and her husband Juan N. (Cheno) Cantu. She is survived by her sister-in-law Anne Garza as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins – whom she dearly loved and adored.
She was a graduate of Benavides High School (Class of 1944). Catalina (Cato) enjoyed many years of retirement after working for the State Hospital in San Antonio. A devoted Catholic, she was active in various church organizations in Concepcion, Texas. In addition to her church activities, she enjoyed being an active member of the Concepcion Senior Center. She was selected Senior Queen in 1988 as the recognition prize for leading the most prolific fund raising drive competition among all Senior Citizen Centers in the area. She loved gardening, baking, dancing, Tejano/conjunto music, social gatherings and travel. She engaged enthusiastically in all these activities which brought her much pleasure and happiness during her retirement. Meeting and connecting with others and making new friends while maintaining old friendships was one of the great delights in her life. And sharing her joyous spirit evoked great cheer, laughter, and fun with family and friends.
Catalina left her lasting mark on those whose lives she touched and loved.
