Concepcion “Chonita” Bernal
Alice – Concepcion “Chonita” Bernal, age 95, passed away December 26, 2021 in Victoria, Texas. She was born March 2, 1926 in Springfield, Texas to Urbano Saldaña and Maria Rangel, but was raised by Espiridion and Juanita D. Campos.
She was a loving wife, mother of 10, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her and her husband owned Bernal’s Bakery and Mac’s Bakery where she worked along side him for many years. She was a devout catholic. She volunteered at St. Joseph for many years and was assistant director of Live teen. She enjoyed volunteering with teens retreats along side Sister Evelina. She was also an Alice evening lionesses. She was the heart of the family and ruled with a firm hand and unconditional love. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, her husband, Roman “Mac” Bernal and children, Norma Bernal, Jose “Charlie” Bernal and Alfredo Trevino.
Concepcion is survived by her children, Roman E. Bernal (Olivia) of Victoria, Texas, Luis R. Bernal (Vilma) of Victoria, Texas, Grace E. San Miguel (Mario) of Boerne, Texas, Mario Bernal (Roseanna) of Alice, Texas, Francisca Bernal of Victoria, Texas, Millie Arvizu (Angel) of Alice, Texas, Anna Maria Valadez (Javier) of San Antonio, Texas and David Bernal (Angelica) of Alice, Texas; 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 beginning at 8:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. followed by 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eleazar Valadez, Andres, Jesus Arvizu, Frank Bernal, Daniel Bernal, Ian Bernal, Omar Bernal, Benjamin Roman Martinez III, and Luis Ricardo Bernal Jr.
