Alice – Daniel Rene Peña “Dan” went to be with our Lord and joined our family in heaven on January 5, 2022. He was born July 21, 1962, in Alice, Texas to Armando Peña Sr. and Delfina Alaniz Peña. Dan was a humble and caring man. He was a true family man who always put others before himself. He loved his family with all that he was. Dan was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and will always be remembered as “Mom’s favorite”. Following in the footsteps of his father, Dan began a career as a radio broadcaster in his beloved hometown of Alice, Texas in 1980 at KDSI/KOPY radio station. For over 40 years, he owned the Tejano microphone. He spent 25 years of his career at KSAB as Program Director and the host of the top-rated morning show alongside his cohost and dear friend, Barbi Leo-Salgado. Dan had an ear for recognizing talent and was instrumental in launching the careers of many Tejano artists. Dan also loved his second family, his co-workers, and his listeners. He regreted not being able to say goodbye on the air one last time. We will miss him beyond belief.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armando Peña Sr. and Delfina Alaniz Peña; siblings, Alma Rosa Lichtenberger, Armando Peña Jr., Federico C. Peña, and Robert “Bobby” Peña; niece, Amanda Celeste Lichtenberger; and sister-in-law, Lina Peña.
