Efigenia “Effie” Aguayo Iglesias was born August 17, 1934, in Robstown, TX to Leonardo and Lina Aguayo. She passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the age of 87, 8 days shy of her 88th birthday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Romeo Iglesias, and a brother, Mucio Aguayo.
Effie was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend with a giving heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to all who needed it. She was the income tax preparer of the neighborhood. She was a lifelong Johnny Cash fan and absolutely loved mariachi music. She was a gambler at heart, her passions being Bingo, Loteria and slot machines. She never met a stranger. She had a heart as big as Texas and never shied away from displaying her giving nature. Her friendships were loyal and everlasting.
She is survived by her children Raquel (Joey) Salas, Robert (Lisa) Iglesias both of Alice, and Rosie Iglesias-Salinas of Portland, TX, her grandchildren Roxanne Iglesias and Clarissa Iglesias of Alice, E. Jay Salinas and Elliott Salinas of Freer, TX, one brother Leonides Aguayo of Corpus Christi, TX, one sister Amelia Baldwin of Buffalo, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
All Services will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Rosary will be recited at Rosas Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Beam Station Road, Alice, TX at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery, Alice, TX.
Honoring Effie as Pallbearers will be Robert Iglesias, Joey Salas, E. Jay Salinas, Joey Iglesias, and Joel Iglesias and Honorary Pallbearer Elliott Salinas.
