Elda Chavez Abitua, 81, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Elda was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family and church. Attended Benavides ISD and received her associates degree from Coastal Bend College. She retired from Benavides ISD where she worked in the cafeteria. Elda was a hardworking mother who dedicated her life to her children. She enjoyed attending church, reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Olivia Chavez; her daughter, Dori Abitua; brother, Filberto Chavez; sister, Aurora Chavez.
Elda is survived by her son, Jesse (Amy) Abitua of Benavides, Texas; her daughter, DeAnna (Roy) Garza of Kingsville, Texas; one brother, Arnoldo Chavez of Toledo, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Jacenda) Abitua, Brian Jesse (Erica) Abitua, Jonah Garza, Emanuel Garza, Sara, Elizabeth (Juan), Ryan and Joaquin; six great grandchildren, Liam Matthew Abitua, Jace Michael Abitua, Aubree, Ayden Abitua, Brian Jesse Abitua Jr., Noah Ryan Ortega; nephew, Benjamin Valencia.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. that day, with Pastor Samuel May, officiating. Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
