Ernesto Peña Jr., passed away and was called home on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 at 80 years of age. He was born on June 12th, 1943 to his parents Ernesto and Natividad Peña Sr.. Ernesto married Idolina C Peña on May 20th, 1967 In Benavides. He was a strong and hard working man with a big heart and witty personality. During his free time, Ernesto loved to barbecue, sing, dance, go to the ranch, watch a good action or western movie, and watch football as he was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Ernesto was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle who was extremely loved and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Natividad Peña Sr.; sister-in-law, Belia Peña; brother-in-law, Bernabe Guerra.
Ernesto is survived by his wife of 56 years of marriage, Idolina C. “Nina” Peña of Benavides, Texas; three children, Palmira (Ramiro Jr.) Cuellar of Benavides, Texas; Eduardo (Celeste) Peña of Benavides, Texas, Ernie Peña of Benavides, Texas; sister, Lydia Guerra of Rios, Texas; brother, Gilberto Peña of San Jose, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Danielle N. Peña, Elaniee Hernandez, Emma L. Peña, Ramiro “Tres” Cuellar III, Michael A. Cuellar, Anthony D. Peña, Arayna Peña, Ellaray Peña; 6 great grandchildren, Addison Mae Hernandez, Adelina Hernandez, Adaleigh Hernandez, Artie Hernandez, Braelynn Cuellar, Alaya Cuellar; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
