Hilda G. Flores, 94, was called home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. She was born March 3, 1929 to her parents, Donaciano and Carmen Gutierrez in Benavides, Texas. She went to school in Benavides and was a migrant worker who worked in the fields to help her family. She proudly obtained her GED in the early 1980’s. Hilda married Erasmo “Eddie” Flores on November 15, 1953. They were married for 59 years. Hilda raised her family in Benavides, Texas where she worked in the school district as a custodian and part time office assistant for over 15 years. When she retired, she was a full-time homemaker. Hilda was also an active member of Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic church where she and her husband were crucillistas. Hilda was an amazing cook and won numerous contests, especially for her flour tortillas. Hilda loved to dance, play bingo and spend time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erasmo “Eddie” Flores; her parents, Donaciano and Carmen Gutierrez; her in-laws, Lucas and Santos Flores; two sons, Marcus Lee Flores and Eddie Lucas Flores; four sisters, Inez († Ramon) Garcia, Olivia († Ramon) Salinas, Ignacia “Nachita” († Hildo) Garcia, Guadalupe “Lupita” († Lucio) Perez; two brothers, Gregorio Gutierrez and Sotero († Elvira) Gutierrez.
Hilda is survived by her children, Richard A. (Gloria) Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas; Robert A. (Rachel) Flores of Alice, Texas; Debra F. († Salvador) Cantu of Benavides, Texas and Michael J. (Stephanie) of Fredericksburg, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Rosie Flores and Rosana Flores; two sisters, Elida († Lupito) Garcia and Mary († Henry) Garcia both of Benavides, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hilda’s daughter, Debra, for giving her time and love to care for mom around the clock. We know she was well cared for and your sacrifice is greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
