Homero “Homer” Contreras Jr. passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 64. Born on September 24, 1959, in Alice, Texas, Homer was a beacon of joy and camaraderie to all who knew him.
Homer’s early years were spent in the halls of Alice Independent School District, where he received his education. His strong work ethic was evident from a young age, leading him to a successful career as a Field Machinist. Homer’s professional life was marked by his dedication to his craft, traveling across the United States and South America. Known for his punctuality and diligence, he was respected by colleagues and associates alike.
Beyond his professional achievements, Homer was a man of many passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who found solace in hunting and fishing. His love for dancing, shooting pool, and barbecuing brought joy to many gatherings. Homer was particularly passionate about baseball, a sport that he not only played but also coached and umpired, sharing his love for the game with others.
Those who knew Homer would describe him as friendly, generous, and spirited. His enthusiasm for life was contagious and he had the innate ability to light up a room with his presence. His generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, as he often went out of his way to help others.
Homer is preceded in death by his parents, Homero and Clemencia Contreras Sr. Left to cherish Homer’s memories are his loving wife of 42 years, Noelia V. Contreras, and his children, Nicole Contreras; Homero (Selena) Contreras, III, and Galo Contreras who were his pride and joy. He also raised Homero (Melissa) Vasquez and Yvonne (Israel) Valdillez as his own, guiding them with love and dedication. His sisters, Olivia (Joe) Mireles, Linda (David) Ruiz, and Mickey (Gilbert) Perez, and brothers, Andres (Elsa) Contreras and Roger (Jackie) Mercado, will remember him as a cherished brother. Homer’s joy was multiplied by his grandchildren, Alessandro and Lillianna Contreras, who will miss their grandfather’s warmth and playful spirit.
As we say goodbye to Homero “Homer” Contreras Jr., we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. His memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
Homero’s family will receive condolences on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM followed by Liturgy of the Word. Rite of committal and Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery.
Honoring Homero as pallbearers will be David Lee Molina, Omar Cantu, Odell Cantu, Joseph Salinas Jr., Sean Gault, and Jonathan Jimenez.
