Irma Q. Perez passed away on April 18, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on January 15, 1941, in Alice, Texas, Irma’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the pursuit of knowledge, and the joy of living each day to the fullest. Her radiant spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and community left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Irma’s journey through life was marked by her passion for education. She earned a master’s degree in education, which she put to use for many years as a beloved teacher within the Alice Independent School District. Even after retiring, her love for teaching and her commitment to the growth of young minds never waned, as she continued to shape futures as a substitute teacher. Irma’s legacy in education is one of countless students whose lives were enriched by her guidance and encouragement.
Family was the cornerstone of Irma’s world. Though she was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Pedro Perez, Jr., and her sons, Jorge Perez and Omar Chapa, her love and lessons live on through her surviving sons, Pedro Perez III, Alvaro Perez, and Christopher Michael Perez. Irma’s sister, Victoria Sanchez, and brothers, Roberto and Gilberto Quinones, also carry forward the light of her presence. Her grandchildren—Omar, Jr., Laura, Lakisha, Candice, and Christian Chapa, and Charlotte and Aliya Perez—will forever be inspired by their grandmother’s boundless love and wisdom.
Irma’s zest for life was contagious. She loved to dance, letting the music carry her away in joyful expression. Her laughter was a melody that harmonized perfectly with the tunes she adored. Irma’s evenings spent playing Loteria with friends and family were not just games, but celebrations of togetherness, filled with the warmth of shared stories and the thrill of friendly competition.
Irma Q. Perez’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of dedication, joy, and compassion. As we celebrate her remarkable journey, let us carry forward the lessons she imparted. Let us dance with abandon, cherish our loved ones, and approach each day as an opportunity to learn, to love, and to make a difference. Irma’s story does not end here; it continues in the lives she touched, in the wisdom she shared, and in the memories that will forever dance in the hearts of those who loved her.
