John Scott Wright
John Scott Wright, age 61 passed away Friday, October 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Scott was born on February 23, 1960, to James H. Wright and Dorothy Jean White. Early on, Scott spent his summers on the swim team and most weekends waterskiing on Lake Corpus Christi. Scott was a member of the varsity football team, but after an injury, he was proud to become the mascot of the Alice Coyotes.
Scott graduated from Alice High School, class of 1978. Scott went on to have a successful career in the oil and gas industry. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and spent many weekends out on Baffin Bay. He loved being out in the country spending time at this aunt and uncle’s ranch. The ranch is where he found his purpose and peace during his retirement years.
Scott had the most contagious personality with hints of sarcasm and his laughter that could fill the room. He was the honorary grandparent of Callen Able and Grace Slaughter. He will forever be their “Scottie.” Scott never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. He would never let you go without and would give the shirt of his back if you needed it. His heart was made of gold.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Homer and Mamie Wright and Frank and Maudie Prichett; father, James Wright; stepfather, Burt White; stepmother, Geraldine Wright; aunt and uncle, Joe and Jean Ann Prichett; and best friend in life, Clayton Fenner.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Sarah) Wright of Alice, Texas and Nathan Wright of Houston, Texas; mother, Dorothy Jean White of Sandia, Texas; brother, Jim (Rita) Wright of Sandia, Texas; sister, Kelly Wright and Paula Maxwell of Fort Collins, Colorado; stepsister, Jessica Pye; stepbrothers, Theo (Melissa) Pye, Jerome Pye and family, Bob (Martha) White and family, and Bill (Alice) White and family; cousins, Mark Prichett and Jana Bickham; nieces, Melissa Slaughter of Sandia, Texas and Michelle (Brian) Abel of Alexandria, Virginia.
The family will have a small Private Memorial Service at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
