Freer – Jose Arturo “Tudy” Martinez, 64 years of age, was called home on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness. He was born in Freer, Texas on September 2, 1957 to Ramona V. Martinez. He attended school in Freer, ISD and was currently employed as a heavy equipment operator for Duval County Pct. # 4. He was a devoted catholic and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Tudy was an outgoing individual, jack of all trades, enjoyed the outdoors, and hunting, cooking, making deer jerky, hot sauce, homemade jelly and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He was a loving brother and uncle who showed affection with a hug and a kiss and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona V. Martinez; two brothers, Juan V. Martinez and Mateo Carrillo.
Tudy is survived by his three brothers, Lucio (Candy) Martinez Jr. of Georgetown, Texas; Martin (Dalia) Martinez, and Miguel Carrillo both of Freer, Texas; two sisters, Esperanza (Luis) Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Texas; Martina Carrillo of Freer, Texas; a loyal friend, Wanda Center; numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church.
Visitation will be held from 5 till 9 pm. on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at the JVM Cemetery at East Hwy 44, 4694 Cominito Road, Freer, Texas.
