JOSE ARTURO VELA SR. Jose Arturo Vela Sr. age 75, sadly entered eternal rest on April 3, 2024, in Alice Texas, while at home in his sleep. He was born in Ben Bolt, Texas on June 19, 1948. Jose started his 43-year career at the Corpus Christi Army Depot in 1966 and worked his way up the company and retired as a successful Director in the company. He was known as a great leader and boss and respected by all who knew him. He was an inspiration to many of his subordinates, co-workers, friends, and family. Jose also traveled to Korea and discovered his love of Tae Kwan Do and again he succeeded and excelled at the martial arts and earned a 4th degree Black Belt. He opened his own teaching Facility (Dojo) called Brush County Tae Kwan Do. Jose trained numerous students over the years all over the South Texas area. He travelled with many students where they competed and even made it to the Junior U.S. Olympics. Jose was very involved with the Alice community, serving as a volunteer at Sphon Hospital for many years. He also highly active in the Catholic Diocese, joined the Knights of Columbus at Saint Elizabeth Church. Most of all Jose Arturo Vela Sr. was a wonderful family man a loving husband to his wife Minne Almaraz Vela and a loving and supportive father to his four sons and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. It took a Village, but Joes biological mother’s family all took part in raising Joe as a young boy and young man, and they did an excellent job, look at the outcome of the holy spiritual man who loved the holy trinity and our Beloved holy mother of the immaculate heart. and he passed on his wisdom. Jose is preceded in death by his biological parents Lydia Rangel Garza and Dr. Jose Amador Garcia, his adoptive parents, Audencio Vela and Angelita Ruiz Vela, and his first-born son Jose Arturo Vela Jr. Jose is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Minnie Almaraz Vela, three sons Albert Vela, Cal Ortega, and Sam (Jessica) Ortega, 10 grandchildren, 5 Great grandchildren, and three sisters: Irma Rangel (Mita), Frances Quinones, and Dahlia Perez Anderson. Serving as Pallbearers will Be Lee Lozano, Richard GarcÃa, Sean Vela, Josh Vela, Ben Vela, Carlo Vela, Anthony Vela, Tristán Ortega, Ethan Ortega, Ian Ortega The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Monday April 8, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. at Rosas Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church of Alice, Texas. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery Rosas Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
