Benavides – Jose H. Pena, 81 years of age entered eternal rest on January 29, 2022. He was a dairy farmer, a skilled barber, and a talented musician known by many. Jose was a 1960 graduate of Benavides High School, and was born on July 16, 1940, in Realitos, Texas to Jose and Sofia Hinojosa Pena. He had a passion for accordion music and could be found enjoying and composing polkas and melodies along with his son, Jerry, and many friends. If you knew Jose, you know that music was his way of expressing himself, his love, and his past experiences from his childhood to his fatherhood days. Jose was very proud to have been an inductee into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame in 2016. He will always be remembered for his laughter, his love of family, and beautiful accordion music.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Sofia H. Pena and his siblings.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories and to honor his legacy, his wife of 61 years of marriage, Edna Couling Pena of Benavides, Texas; three sons, Joe Mike (Linda) Pena of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jerry (Melissa) Pena of Benavides, Texas, and Luis (Eva) Pena of Benavides, Texas; two daughters, Edna Lee (Rene) Yzaguirre of Alice, Texas and Elaina (Adrian) Perez of Freer, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Taylor, Erika, Allie, Andrea, Audrey, Joe Andrew, Carlos Omar, Eric, Ivan, Eva Louise, Luis Evan, Rene, Sophia, Emma, Klaudia, Jaime, & Kadrian. He also leaves behind 18 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends and relatives at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Rosas Funeral Home of Alice, Texas. The family will host a Memorial Celebration of his life and will have the recession of the Holy Rosary at 12:00 p.m., also at Rosas Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Alice, Texas located at 801 South Reynolds St. Funeral Services will conclude at the church after the Mass.
The family encourages everyone to please wear a mask and practice social distance and refrain from hugs and embrace those that will attend and for those who choose not to, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during their time of grief.
