uan Gilberto Garcia, affectionately known as Johnny, was called into eternal life on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in Alice, Texas. He was born on July 12, 1958, to his parents Gilberto and Juanita Garcia, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Education was a tailored journey for Johnny, who attended a variety of schools before graduating from a private school in Mathis, Texas. Although Johnny never held a traditional job, he was an artist in his own right, dedicating his time to coloring pictures and creating artwork in his private little apartment, which he fondly regarded as his home office.
Johnny’s involvement in the community was marked by his active participation in Adult Day Care Centers where he eagerly engaged in activities and trips, always ready to bring a smile to everyone’s face. Known for his vibrant imagination, Johnny delighted in assuming the personas of The Six Million Dollar Man, Steve Austin, and Capt. Kirk, Dr. Bones, Scotty, and other characters from the Star Trek universe. A true people person, he relished being the center of attention, charming everyone with his wit, cleverness, humor, and musical talent. As a romantic at heart, Johnny had a special fondness for pretty girls and was always the perfect gentleman.
Music was one of Johnny’s greatest passions; from the soothing tunes of KLUX to the lively beats of mariachi bands. He was a fan of Johnny Cash, Freddy Fender, and Elvis Presley, often found singing and dancing along to their music. But above all, his love for food, especially beans, cake, candy, and ice cream were unmatched, and he considered these simple pleasures the best things in life.
Johnny’s faith was pure and unwavering, akin to that of an innocent child. Entrusted with the honor of saying the Thanksgiving prayer each year, he expressed his gratitude with a sincere and loving heart, thankful for his blessings and his unconditional loving family.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Juanita Garcia; his brother, Raul (Lucy) Garcia; and his brother-in-law, Luis Garcia. He is survived by his adoring siblings, Omedi Garcia, Hortencia Garcia, Ramiro Garcia, Fernando (Rose) Garcia, and Noemi Gloria (Layne) Miller. His legacy is further celebrated by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Johnny’s spirit will live on in the stories shared, the art he created, and the countless lives he touched.
