Juan Manuel Mata Sr.
Alice – Juan Manuel Mata Sr., age 69, passed away December 27, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born December 31, 1952 in Banquete, Texas to Eustacio and Herminia Mata. Juan Manuel retired from Jim Wells County Precinct 3 after being employed over 20 years. Some of his hobbies included fishing, playing pool, and rooster fighting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eustacio and Herminia Mata; brother, Roberto Mata; nephew, Jose Luis “Joey” Mata Jr.; maternal grandparents, Manuel and Simona Pruneda; paternal grandparents, Ramon Mata and Victoria Montalvo; and brother-in-law, Henry Gonzalez.
He is survived by his companion of 24 years, Rosa Gonzalez of Alice, Texas; three daughters, Patricia Mata (Jaime Cruz) of Alice, Texas, Esperanza Silva (Nacho) of Jordanton, Texas, and Ella Flores (Chris) of Christine, Texas; one son, Juan Manuel Mata Jr. of Alice, Texas; four sisters, Olga Gonzalez (Oscar Ortiz Sr.) of Alice, Texas, Terry Lozano (Rocky) of Alice, Texas Margie Valenzia (Alfredo) of Hauffman, Texas, and Anna Mata (Johnny Alvarado) of Alice, Texas; four brothers, Juan Mata (Merida) of Alice, Texas, Luis Mata (Roxie) of Alice, Texas, David Mata (Liza) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marcos Mata (Laura) of Alice, Texas; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 from 11:30 am till 12:30 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 12:30 p.m. A funeral mass will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church that same day. Burial to follow at Mata Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy Cruz, Dywane Cruz, Eloy Alexjandro Gonzalez, Omar Alviso, Michael Jasso, Oscar Hernandez Jr., and Aaron Mata.
