Juanita “Janie” Gonzalez Villalavazo
Santa Cruz Ranch – Juanita “Janie” Gonzalez Villalavazo, 58, passed away September 22, 2021, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Our beautiful baby sister, Janie, had so many infinite fortes. Janie was a gourmet and pastry chef, a fashionista diva, a florist, and a personal care giver. Janie loved gardening and canned most of what she harvested. She always had fresh cut flowers throughout the house. Janie was our Martha Stewart. Janie loved unconditionally and devoted most of her adult life taking care of our mother, Ester, until her passing in 2011. It was her passion to care for the elderly until her untimely demise. Janie was spiritual and exotic. She believed in the Holy Trinity and never doubted her faith. Janie was a healer and even raised eyebrows when she took on belly dancing. Janie was fun, and crazy great. She spoiled us with feasts at all family gatherings and especially during the holidays. She made Christmas platters filled with slices of pumpkin rolls, pan de polvo, sand tarts, bon bons and her famous fudge. Parties at the ranch included her decadent food and cheery spirits like her blueberry margaritas, Bloody Mary’s, wines, shots of Patron and her favorite beer. Janie made a to die for prime rib and tiramisu. Although Janie had no children of her own, Janie in a sense, was a mother to us all. She especially loved unconditionally her Papí and Mamí, all her 15 siblings, all her Gonzalez and Canales Tíos and Tias, nephews, nieces, cousins, Godchildren, friends, and her pet Chihuahuas, Frances and Danisto, Siamese cats Marilyn and Monroe, her dogs Otis and Fuzzy. We will all miss Janie’s beautiful spirit. When we see the seek refuge in the Lord, see the bright sun, visit the ocean, and hear “Hotel California,” see the beauty around us, we will think of Janie. Or “La Yaney” as our late Mother would call her, or “Mí Janie”, as our late Tía Lole would sweetly call her. “Janie, go rest high on that mountain with the Lord, Our Father and the son. Fly High our little Angel.
