Alice – Luis Flores Sr., age 78, passed away February 11, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born June 22, 1943 in Alice, Texas to Sylvestre and Trinidad Flores. Luis had a strong work ethic from a young age. At the age of 6, he began picking cotton until he graduated from high school. He later pursued a career in the music industry as a musician during the early 60’s where he formalized his deep and passionate love for music as a bajo sexto, accordion and bass guitar player as well as a singer. He played in a band with his brother Amadeo Flores and Tony De La Rosa. He started his family in the mid 1960’s after marrying Rosa Flores and relocated to San Jose, California continuing playing music and owning and operating his own successful painting business while proudly and consistently providing for and loving his family. He relocated back to Texas in 1999 where he eventually retired from Boeing where he was an airplane painter.
During his retirement, he spent his time working on the family ranch, playing Bingo, going to dances, spending quality time with family, and even formed his own band: Luis Flores y Sorpresa and played sold out shows in Alice and surrounding areas. He has written music all of his life. He was even asked to join the Tejano Music Hall of Fame. All the while, he remained protective, loving, and available to his friends and family at all times. He was always present to those who he loved and cared about. He spent much of his life doing without so his family could do with. He was a man of honor, deep love, and strong values, not to downplay his silly sense of humor where many laughs were never ending.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvestre and Trinidad Flores; wife of 47 years, Rosa Flores; siblings, Alonzo Flores, Rudy Flores, Fidela Godines, Amadeo and Angelita Flores, and Juane and Virginia Flores.
He is survived by his children, Luis Flores Jr. of San Antonio, Maria Christina Flores of San Antonio, and Beatrice Flores-Rosales of Alice; siblings, Jose Baldo Flores (Manuela) of Jourdanton and Guadalupe Flores (the late Elva Flores) of Dallas; grandchildren, Selina Diaz Flores, Anthony Michael Flores, Luis Flores III, Alonzo David Flores, Ricardo Esteban Flores, Daniel Trinidad Flores, and Rosalia Maria Rosales; his companion for the past 5 years, Lile Morales; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
