Maggie S. Liguez, 84 years of age, was called home on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in an Alice nursing home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Las Piedrietas Ranch on June 15, 1939 to her parents, Emilio and Tomasita Salinas. At a very young age she began working to help support her family. Maggie married Lucio Liguez on June 21, 1970 and celebrated 44 years of marriage. She devoted her life to raising her seven children and a grandson, she held several jobs and owned and operated The Buckaroo Inn for many years. Maggie enjoyed sewing, cooking, arts and crafts and especially spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucio U. Liguez; her parents, Emilio and Tomasita Salinas; her grandson, Orlando Salinas Jr.; her granddaughter, Sara E. Salinas; her siblings, Emilio Salinas Jr. and Elma Perez; uncle Amando Pena.
Maggie is survived by her five sons, Orlando (Rosemary) Salinas Sr. of Freer, Texas; Omar (Margie) Salinas of Freer, Texas; Homero Salinas of Corpus Christi, Texas; Arnold (Maribel) Liguez of Helotes, Texas, Noe (Angelina) Liguez of Freer, Texas; two daughters, Noemi L. Garza of Alice, Texas and Noelia L. (Danny) Cantu of Alice, Texas; brother, Richard (Gloria) Salinas Sr. of Freer, Texas; sister, Maria Medellin of Corpus Christi, Texas; uncle Manuel Pena and aunt Lily Garza; 21 grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Riojas, Arleen (Kevin) Salinas, Omar Salinas Jr., Homer Adams, Jesus Guerrero III, Robert (Jasmine) Garza, Andrew Garza, Adrian Garza, Victoria Liguez, Katherine Liguez, Alexandra Liguez, Analisa (Sylvester) Middleton, Rebekah Gonzalez, David DeLeon, Ania Liguez, Xavier Liguez, Damien Liguez, Brannon Coronado; 17 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Valdemar Perez; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, Texas that day. Interment will follow at Las Piedritas Cemetery in Las Piedritas, Texas.
