Maria A. Dimas, 62 years of age, entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2023 in a Corpus Christi Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born on July 2, 1960 to her parents, Cruz and Margarita Cantu. Maria was a graduate of Atlee Parr High School class of 1979. She worked as a librarian aide for Benavides ISD for several years and retired from NSCL Home Health where she worked as a receptionist for 19 years. Maria was an active member of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church and a Catholic Daughter, served as a poll watcher, and was assistant Tee ball coach with Hound and was involved with the 4H Club of Benavides. She enjoyed dancing, hunting, playing bingo, buying lottery tickets, going to the marqinitas, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandkids, and great grandkids. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friends who will be sadly missed by everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cruz and Margarita Cantu; her brother, Gabriel Cantu Sr. and her twin sisters.
Maria is survived by her husband of 42 years of marriage, Rogelio “Hound” Dimas of Benavides, Texas; her daughter, Palmira Cecilia Dimas (Carlos Benavides) of Benavides, Texas her son, Christopher Roy Dimas of Arlington, Texas; brothers and sisters, Cruz (Virginia) Cantu of Benavides, Texas; Gertrudis (Librado) Canales of Hebbronville, Texas; Pedro Cantu of San Diego, Texas; Arnoldo “Nono” Cantu of Hebbronville, Texas; † Gabriel (Virginia) Cantu Sr. of San Diego, Texas; Toribio “Toby” (Susie) Cantu of San Diego, Texas, Idolina (Juan) Viera Sr. of Benavides, Texas; Belinda “Bibi” Cantu of San Diego, Texas; Nelda (LeRoy) Pena of Ben Bolt, Texas; four grandchildren, Isaac Gabriel Ramirez (Selena), Alejandro Jaime Dimas, Jasmine Nicole Garza, Cruz Jose Dimas; three great grandchildren, Shelby Jae Ramirez, Isaac Gabriel Ramirez Jr., Izzaiah Roy Ramirez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
