Corpus Christi – Mary Sidney Holmes, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on August 22, 1927 in Alice Texas to George Bell and Pauline Fuller Clegg.
Mary Sidney graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Texas A&I University. She retired from Alice ISD where she was a teacher and Coordinator of the Talented and Gifted program. She impacted the lives of many students.
She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority, Alician Study Club, and several Bridge clubs. Mary Sidney had a lifelong love of horses and was devoted to her little Boston Terrier, Gretchen.

Mary Sidney was a devout Christian and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alice. She served on the Session and taught Sunday school. She was on numerous committees including the Centennial Committee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Robert Preston Holmes, and her son, Mark Clegg Holmes.
Loved ones left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Mary Paula Holmes of Alice, Texas and Carrie Scott Holmes of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Alice, Cemetery, officiated by Anna Holmgreen.
