Minerva Gonzalez Salinas
Alice – Minerva Gonzalez Salinas passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022, in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on February 10, 1937, at La Parrita Ranch to Fortino and Petra B. Gonzalez. Minerva was a deeply devoted catholic with a lengthy residency in Alice, Texas. She was a proud 1955 graduate of San Diego High School where she excelled in track and field, basketball and as a member of the Vaquero Band as a tenor Sax player. In the 1970’s, she worked for Community Action and spend her remaining working years with the Alice Independent School District at Nayer Elementary School as a Teacher’s aide and eventually as the principal’s secretary. She loved singing with the St. Joseph’s Church Choir, listening to her husband perform mariachi and conjunto music, and spending time with her family. Highlights of her life after retirement included volunteering at Spohn Hospital of Alice and organizing casino resort trips to Coushatta, and L’auberge. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Fortino and Petra B. Gonzalez, her brothers Gustavo, David and Ysidro Gonzalez
Survivors include the love of her life and life companion of 63 years of marriage Edalio Salinas, Sr. of Alice, Texas, one brother Oscar Gonzalez, two sisters Lucia Gonzalez and Rosie Stasek; her sons Orlando (Cynthia) Salinas of Harlingen, Texas, Edalio (Rebecca) Salinas Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas and Sergio (Priscilla) Salinas of San Antonio, Texas. Other survivors include the Joy of her life, her grandchildren; Marisa (Michael) Paéz, Alyssa Salinas, Eliana (Mario) Hernandez and Regina (Philipp)Salinas-Baar, and her great-grandchild Arielena Castél Paéz.
Family is eternally grateful for the compassionate care that was given to her at Cimarron Place and with Corpus Christi Hospice.
Family will receive family and friends on Tuesday March 29, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Rosas Funeral Home. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 12:00 Noon. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery. Honoring Minerva as Pallbearers will be Gustavo B. Gonzalez, Ysidro Gonzalez Jr., John Robert “J.R.” Gonzalez, Miguel Gonzalez, Michael Gamez and Abelardo Gonzalez III.
