Belia Ortiz Pena, 72, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022 at her residence with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in San Diego, Texas on June 4, 1950 to her parents, Blas and Elodia Ortiz Sr. She was a graduate of Freer High School, Class of 1968, and a graduate of South Texas Commercial College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Belia was formally employed as a bank teller/bookkeeper for Brush Country Bank in Freer, Texas where she retired as an assistant Vice President after 28 years of service. After moving to Alice, Texas to be closer to her family, she was employed at Chemcel Federal Credit Union in Alice, Texas for 4 years. Belia enjoyed spending her time cooking, baking, and traveling; as well as spending quality time with her loving family at her ranch in San Jose. Belia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Those around her were drawn to her selflessness and heart of gold. Belia touched the lives of so many people in such a short amount of time and represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blas and Elodia Ortiz Sr., her sister, Berta Zarate, and brother in law, Arturo Grande Jr.
Belia is survived by her husband of 50 years of marriage, Gilberto Pena of San Jose Community; two daughters, Norma Jean Garza of Alice, Texas, and Lydia (Gilbert) P. DeLeon of Alice, Texas; two brothers, Blas Ortiz Jr. of South Padre Island, Texas, and Natividad Ortiz of Houston, Texas; one sister, Beatriz O. Grande of Freer, Texas; two granddaughters Alyssa (Brandon) Reynolds, and Gabriella N. Chapa; one great-grandson William M. Reynolds, all of Alice, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022 at San Jose Mission in San Jose Community, Texas. Interment will follow at Antonio Lopez Family Cemetery in San Jose Community, Texas.
