Martin Cantu
Alice – Martin Cantu, 57, passed away September 16, 2021. He was born November 3, 1963 in Alice, Texas to Guadalupe Cantu Sr. and Rosenda Florez Cantu. Martin previously worked as a D.J. for radio station KOPY where he was known as “El Coyote Negro”. He loved crafting, woodworking, and working on his car. He enjoyed working and spending time outdoors. He was a man who was strong in his faith and found his home as a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he was a Lector and also a member of their Knights of Columbus Council 10403.
Martin never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, father, Guadalupe Cantu Sr.; brother, Guadalupe Cantu Jr.; and niece, Guadalupe “Lupita” Razo.
Survivors include his mother, Rosenda Cantu of Alice; sisters, Maria Cantu and Raquel (Roland) Almaguer both of Alice; nieces, Criselda Cantu (Steve Slezak) of Austin, TX, Marivel Cantu and Sophia Razo of Alice, nephews, Marcos Antonio (Sara) Cantu of Weatherford, TX, Guadalupe Cantu III, Emilio Cantu of Alice. His grandnieces Nadia, Mia and Luna, grandnephews Javi and Ford.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church.
Pallbearers will be Guadalupe Cantu, III, Emilio Cantu, Roland Almaguer, Jr., Steve Slezak, Juan Sanchez, III., Chano Sanchez, Jr. and Honorary Pallbearer Marcos Antonio Cantu.
On behalf of the Cantu family, a special thank you to the Christus Spohn Alice ICU nursing staff for the kindness and care shown to our beloved Martin during his time in the ICU and also to everyone that offered their prayers and kind words.
