Orlando Sendejo Sr.
Alice – Orlando Sendejo Sr. 53, Alice Native, passed away on Thursday September 9th, 2021. Orlando was a beloved son, husband, brother, father, and Christian leader in his community. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was born on February 20th, 1968 and was an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Alice. He is preceded in death by his mother Manuela Torres Sendejo of Alice and his brother David Sendejo of Houston. He is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart and wife of 35 years Angie Pena Sendejo, three sons Orlando Sendejo Jr., Mario Sendejo, David Tomas Sendejo. Orlando is also survived by his father Servando Sendejo Sr., Brothers Servando Sendejo Jr. (Priscilla), Juan Sendejo, Armando Sendejo (Sara), Sister Hope Galvan (Rey) and God Daughter Alejandra Sendejo. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
In his youth Orlando enjoyed his time in the FFA where he served as Vice President and loved to participate in Ag Class. During his time in high school Orlando raised pigs, lambs, and steers and placed multiple times in the Jim Wells County Fair. He was an Alice High School Graduate, class of 1986. After his time in high school, Orlando served for 6 years in the United States Marine Corp. During his time enlisted, he served abroad including the Persian Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm. Demonstrating hard work and integrity, he climbed the ranks of his position to Lance Corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1993 when he returned home to Alice where he could live close to his family.
After serving his term in the military, Orlando started a career in the plumbing trade where he started out as a helper. Through his years in plumbing, he continued to improve his craft and reputation, earning himself a Responsible Master Plumber’s License. He was working for City Plumbing as of recently. As a man of God, Orlando devoted himself to serving at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. For many years he helped as a lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, CCD Teacher, Altar Serving Coordinator, & Volunteer. He enjoyed attending, and volunteering at Church Retreats including Men’s Flame, Teen Flame, ACTS, The Encounter, & Conquistando Naciones. He truly cherished his time ministering as a homebound Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan and loved serving the Lord at Mass.
Orlando had a fighter’s spirit and the heart of a leader. He was no stranger to bravery, honesty, and laughter. He was known for his humor and passion for politics. He strived to always do the right thing and speak out when he felt something needed to be addressed. Orlando was a mentor and confidante to many. He truly had a place in his heart for Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and its beloved Parishioners. Orlando also had a strong sense of devotion to his family and will truly be missed. He always strove to grow in his Faith and Love for Jesus Christ and shared that Faith with all especially his beloved Family.
The Family will receive friends and relatives at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday September 16, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Roberson Collins Cemetery with military honors.
