Alice – Octavio Deanda Figueroa, “Tavo”, Mr. Fig.” and “The Mayor”, age 78, entered eternal rest September 28, 2021, in Alice, Texas. He was born October 21, 1942 to Octavio and Manuela Figueroa. He served on the Alice City Council for two years and was the Honorable Mayor of the City of Alice for 14 consecutive years starting in 1981. After serving several years as mayor, he took a break for one term and then served an additional 2-year term. He also was an educator in the Alice Independent School District for 41 years until his retirement in 2006
He was preceded in death by his parents, Octavio and Manuela Figueroa; his wife, Antonieta Figueroa; brothers, Oscar Figueroa, Andres Figueroa, and Fidel Figueroa; brothers-in-law, Harry Reynolds, Allen Kitchoff, and Jesse Munoz; and sister-in-law, Aurora Figueroa.
He is survived by his daughter, Cristelia Gonzales of Alice; son, Jesse (Lindsey) Halbgewachs of Weston, Missouri; sisters, Amelia (the late Harry) Reynolds of Leavenworth, Kansas, Alicia (the late Allen) Kirchoff of Flagstaff, Arizona and Adelita (the late Jesse) Munoz of McAllen, Texas; sisters-in-law Esperanza (David) Perez, Rosa Aguilar both of Houston, Texas, Josie Figueroa of San Antonio, and Raquel Figueroa of Corpus Christi; brother-in-law, Antonio Arredondo of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Aliana, Emma, Ysela and Joaquin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 5 PM to 9 PM at Rosas Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 8 a.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 9 AM at Rosas Funeral Home. A funeral mass will follow and be celebrated 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, Adrian Reynolds, and Paul Kitchoff. Honorary pallbearers will be Servando Hinojosa, Joe Gilpatrick, and Joaquin Gonzáles
