RACHEL CARMELA FARIAS Rachel Carmela Farias, 53, our beautiful Queen of joy and laughter, gained her wings on January 9, 2024. She was born August 7, 1970 in Alice, Texas to Alfredo Farias Jr. and Evelia Martinez Farias. She is preceded in death by siblings, Alfredo Farias III, Raul Farias and Anna Maria Trevino. Rachel was raised in Alice, Texas where she completed CCD classes at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is a graduate of Alice High School, class of 1991. Rachel achieved many life accomplishments spreading her message that anyone with special disabilities can do anything their heart desires. She was a Special Olympic athlete throughout her school years and attended summer camp yearly in Houston, Texas. She was an active member and spokesperson for Texas Advocates. She was a long term employee of Pizza Hut and honored as the 2014 Employee of the Year for Coastal Bend Self Advocates. As an advocate for all Texans with disabilities; she was their voice for inclusiveness. Her greatest accomplishment was being crowned Duchess of Fiesta Especial Court in San Antonio, Texas in 2020. She reigned with dignity and pride bringing awareness to people with disabilities and their special abilities to achieve their dreams. She raised funds for Kinetic Kids, San Antonio, Texas. She appeared in many parades and various events throughout the San Antonio region representing San Antonio Fiesta Royal Court. After the death of her mother, Rachel spent her remaining 9 years in Schertz, Texas with sister Sylvia and brother-in-law Homero Godines. Throughout those years she loved traveling such as to Alaska, Seattle, Washington as well as other special places of interest. She loved dancing, singing and just being the life of the party as she brought joy to all our hearts. Survivors include sisters, Yolanda (Raymond) Ruiz of Houston, Texas and Sylvia (Homer) Godines of San Antonio, Texas; two nieces that grew up with her, Rita (Robert) Ramos of Alice, Texas and Roxy (Carlos) Pena of San Antonio, Texas and nephew, Richard Trevino of Alice, Texas. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews that were special to her. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Rosas Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 2:00 pm. Services will conclude after the Rosary. The funeral home will open the next day Monday, January 15, 2024, at 8:00 am for visitation and will leave in procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Las Calaveras Cemetery. Pall bearers include: Andrew Ramirez, Robert Ramos, Richard Trevino, Jesse Godines, Johnny Godines, Justin Godines, Homero (Guy) Godines, and Omar Rodriguez.
