Ruben Luera, age 70, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Ruben was born December 15, 1950 to Pedro and Alberta Luera in Alice, Texas. Ruben started working at age 16 at City Sheet Metal in Alice, Texas until he was bout 34 years old. He then started working for Live Oak County where he went on to retire. Ruben was a musician first and foremost. He started playing music at 12 years old and at 14 years old he formed his first band, “Untouchable Bats”. Ruben played guitar, trumpet, drums, keyboard, and sang. The 4 original band members are Ruben Luera, Ruben Cardona, Freddy Cantu, and Ruben Gomez. The final band Ruben formed and played with is “Los Amores”. The final band members were Ruben Luera, Joe Alvarez, Johnny Ponce, Mario Rivera, and Javier Rios. Ruben loved his music and was known to be a “Showman”. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Eugenio Espinoza, Esmerigildo Espinoza, Josefina “Pepa” Medina, Rosendo Luera, Robert Luera, and 2 other brothers.

Grandchildren: Mark Anthony Hinojosa of Kirkland, Washington, Pedro Ruben Luera (Jessica L.) of San Antonio, Texas, Aiden B. Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Alana B. Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Peyton N. Luera of San Antonio, Texas
Numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 starting at 9 am till 11 am at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel.
A rosary will be recited at 11 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a funeral mass will be celebrated directly after. A burial will follow in the Roberson-Collins Memorial Cemetery.
